| Patrolman Charles Deininger was shot and instantly killed by one of a trio of car theives at a Chelsea garage on February 13, 1919. He was killed while he Patrolman William Shea and John Bartley (Chelsea Police) were staking out the garage, waiting for the theives to come out. Five arrests were made in the shooting, and two were charged with murder. At his funeral, Deininger was said to be "a bold, heroic and beloved poice officer, unafraid of danger, upright, loyal and true to his lofy ideals." |
